It’s a truth universally acknowledged that Victoria’s Secret Angels are regarded as some of the most beautiful women in the world. Good genes, great hair, enviable and somewhat unachievable-to-normal-humans bodies and of course, extremely covetable wardrobes. And we don’t mean their barely there catwalk attire, either…
You’ll be pleased to know that there’s more than one way to channel a Victoria’s Secret Angel this season, and we think we’ll take the one that doesn’t involve the super strict diets, endless gym hours and extremely revealing runway outfits.
Just like all of our favourite models, VS Angels seem to rock off duty style with unrivalled ease and effortlessness. Even on personal stylists’ days off, we have every confidence that Lily Aldridge and the rest of her Angel family can make heads turn as they go about their daily business. (FYI – Lily was just “popping out” to get her hair done… no biggie.) How is it possible to look so chic and so expertly put together even on an off day? We, along with some inspiration from Lily Aldridge, are going to show you how.
We could trawl through Lily Aldridge archives for weeks without getting bored or running out of sartorial inspiration. But this particular look gets our vote for quite a few different reasons – in particular how transitional it can be. Lose the sweater and the boots and you have a sizzling summer outfit; or layer up during those confusing temperatures either here at home or less exotic worldwide destinations with the aforementioned pieces. We know that we’re not alone when we say it would give our wardrobes (and style credentials) a huge lift if we take a leaf out of Lily’s book and channel her off duty look.

Frame striped overalls
The thing, or things, that immediately stand out are Lily’s nautical inspired striped trousers – clear proof that you don’t have to be on a ship to get on board with the trend. (See what we did there?) If your typical trouser of choice on a dress down day is a trusty pair of blue jeans – with very little variation – then stripe trousers might just be the thing you need to get you out of your style rut. Taking this simple fashion risk will only boost your day-to-day wardrobe and change it for the better, with no real compromise on the comfort you need for going about daily chores.
We have to point out that Lily is actually wearing two-piece overalls, which is a nice little bonus as you get two for the price of one. Unhook them and wear the trousers separately, or mix it up by rocking the full dungarees with a plain vest top underneath for those scorching summer temperatures. Can’t decide? Wear the overalls and keep a sweater handy to cover up if you want to keep people on their toes and mix and match. Because why not?

Isabel Marant sweater
Sure, any cream coloured sweater will work with this outfit, but where’s the fun in that? Treat yourself and your body to some casual luxury, and invest in this seasonal staple that will work with anything and everything all year round. Extra points for tucking it inside your trousers – striped or otherwise.

Balenciaga shoulder bag
Obviously Lily Aldridge is going to have a hot off the runway, new-season handbag – how foolish of anyone to think otherwise. We wouldn’t be surprised if she got her hands on it a mere minute after it made its debut on the Balenciaga catwalk. A smart move, if that were the case; if we designed a bag, or anything for that matter, we wouldn’t hesitate to let Lily take it on its first real-world outing. This bag doesn’t need world famous models to tempt fashionistas into buying it though – aside from the practical shape and size, the floral print is exactly what is required for summer accessorising. We wouldn’t tuck it away during the winter months either – who wouldn’t want subtle reminders of the summer to brighten up their gloomy day? We dare you to carry this bag and not have a huge smile on your face.

We’re not 100% sure what boots Lily is wearing, but thankfully there are quite a few similar designs to choose from.
