Official partner to the Cannes International Film Festival since 1998, Chopard annually unveils its latest Red Carpet Collection. A great lover of nature, Caroline Scheufele has chosen this subject as the main theme for the 2020 Red Carpet Collection and for all of the Maison’s activities at the Festival. Previewed here, the creations in the collection provide a foretaste of the 73 models that will be revealed during the legendary ascent of the Palais des Festivals steps: an impressively structured necklace in Fairmined gold and diamonds sourced from suppliers certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council, and which enhance both the regal and ethical aura of an eagle with outstretched wings, along with a clover-themed jewellery set inspired by natural enchantment.
The Red Carpet Collection: a feat reiterated each year
Since the 60th anniversary of the Cannes International Film Festival, Chopard’s Haute Joaillerie workshops have annually achieved the feat of composing a collection that includes as many creations as the year of the Festival’s existence. An ambitious challenge proposed by Caroline Scheufele – Co-President and Artistic Director of the Maison – to her artisans, who represent the combined know-how of more than 30 different crafts. Today, the Chopard ateliers, located in Geneva, are the largest Haute Joaillerie workshops in Switzerland: sculptor-jewellers, lapidaries, gem-setters and polishers. From simple lines to generous volumes, from working on gold to precious stones, these talented craftsmen push back the limits of the possible and, by combining their talents, give life to the jewels in this prestigious collection. Living up to its Red Carpet name, it is destined to sparkle on the Palais des Festivals steps as it adorns the most beautiful actresses during the official presentation of their films.
The celebration of an entrancing natural environment
For this new edition of the Cannes event, Caroline Scheufele will unveil a range of 73 treasures. The creative soul of Chopard and initiator of its Journey To Sustainable Luxury, she celebrates the environment, along with its flora and fauna, by choosing ‘Nature’ as the main theme of both this 13th collection and Chopard’s activities in Cannes.
Ahead of the Festival, which will take place from 12 to 23 May 2020, Chopard is thus revealing the first two creations inspired by Nature. The first is a majestic eagle whose diamond-set golden wings unfurl into a necklace, with a fancy brown yellow pear-shaped diamond firmly gripped in the powerful bird of prey’s talons. Like all new Haute Joaillerie pieces created by the Maison in gold, this necklace is crafted in Fairmined certified ethical gold, while all its diamonds are sourced from suppliers that are certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council. This magnificent necklace is joining the Green Carpet Collection, a capsule launched in 2013 as part of the Red Carpet Collection and featuring models crafted exclusively from responsibly sourced materials. As Caroline Scheufele confirms: “The most beautiful tribute to nature is above all to respect its fragile resources“.
And with regard to the second creation, because the Maison creates genuine talismans that accompany women like so many lucky charms, Caroline Scheufele has designed a set consisting of a four-leaf clover necklace and earrings sparkling with tsavorites and pink sapphires.
